When to use AI-generated images

Like many other folks at Buffer, I believe AI is an incredible tool that assists and unlocks creativity. However, it should be applied thoughtfully and strategically. It shouldn’t replace creative work, and it’s not a silver bullet.

Here are some examples of where AI-generated visuals can help you elevate your content:

Abstract ideas that are tricky to photograph — for example, maybe you are sharing a social post about “imposter syndrome”Data visualizations and infographicsConsistent graphics for marketing campaignsIllustrating and celebrating personal achievementsHypothetical and futuristic scenarios and ideas

On the flip side, I’d be careful about using AI-generated images for:

Representing or recreating images of other peopleProduct photographyAnything that requires photographic accuracy

Some other things to keep in mind

Creating great AI images is part art, part experiment. The magic happens when you combine AI’s capabilities with your unique perspective.

Some tips to generate eye-catching images:

Start with a clear conceptBe patient with the processRefine your descriptionsLearn from each attempt

Remember, most AI-generated images won’t be perfect on first try. It’s okay to generate multiple versions with slight variations.
